Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or its equivalent
  • One year of experience in radio-teletype operations, sworn law enforcement, dispatching, forestry, firefighting or public contact work
  • College education from an accredited institution can substitute at the rate of 30 semester or 45 quarter hours for required experience
  • Valid class E driver license
  • Must live within 30 miles of the headquarters at 865 Geddie Road Tallahassee, Florida
  • Must pass background screening including fingerprinting
  • Available for occasional travel and emergency responses
  • Ability to complete training requirements within designated time

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One year of experience in radio-teletype operations, sworn law enforcement, dispatching, forestry, firefighting or public contact work
  • College education can substitute for experience at the rate of 30 semester or 45 quarter hours
  • Valid class E driver license
  • Ability to pass background screening and fingerprinting
  • Strong communication and coordination skills
  • Ability to work flexible shifts and respond to emergencies

Job Duties

  • Dispatch crews to wildfires, smoke complaints and other incidents
  • Approve or deny issuance of burn authorizations and maintain related records
  • Perform on-site inspections, compliance checks and landowner assistance
  • Maintain administrative files, records and reports for communication center
  • Receive and handle incoming calls and relay information to supervisors and agencies
  • Gather and relay daily fire weather forecasts and unusual weather activity
  • Successfully complete all required training for the Duty Officer position
