Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One year of experience in radio-teletype operations, sworn law enforcement, dispatching, forestry, firefighting or other public contact work
  • Valid Class E driver license
  • Occasional travel for training
  • Ability to respond to emergencies including natural disasters outside normal work hours
  • Successful completion of background screening including fingerprinting

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One year of experience in radio-teletype operations, sworn law enforcement, dispatching, forestry, firefighting or other public contact work
  • Valid Class E driver license
  • Ability to work various shifts including extended or emergency hours
  • Basic computer proficiency
  • Strong communication and decision-making skills
  • Ability to read and interpret maps and use Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and other software

Job Duties

  • Dispatch crews to wildfires, smoke complaints and other incidents
  • Operate radio, telephone and computer systems to transmit, receive and store information
  • Approve or deny issuance of burn authorizations and update maps
  • Maintain landowner and certified burner contact information and advise on burning laws and weather
  • Perform on-site inspections, compliance checks and track landowner assists
  • Maintain paper and electronic files, records and reports for the communication center
  • Receive and handle incoming telephone calls and relay information to supervisors, crews, agencies and the public
  • Gather and relay daily fire weather information and report unusual weather activity
  • Successfully complete all required training for the Duty Officer position
