Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or its equivalent
  • One year of experience in radio-teletype operations, sworn law enforcement, dispatching, forestry, firefighting or other public contact work
  • College education from an accredited institution may substitute for experience at the rate of 30 semester or 45 quarter hours per year of required experience
  • Valid Class E driver license
  • Occasional travel for training
  • Ability to respond to emergencies including natural disasters
  • Must be able to work rotating shifts and weekends
  • Successful pass of background screening including fingerprinting
  • No use of AI tools during the hiring process
  • Complete all candidate profile fields accurately

Job Qualifications

  • Ability to exercise independent judgment in emergency situations
  • Knowledge of fire control or emergency response operations
  • Computer proficiency
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work rotating shifts and weekends
  • Willingness to undergo background screening and fingerprinting

Job Duties

  • Coordinate emergency response of firefighters, supervisors, pilots, and law enforcement personnel through a communications center
  • Receive and process radio and telephone information from various sources concerning wildfires and emergencies
  • Determine required action and dispatch emergency personnel and aircraft when necessary
  • Operate computer systems to transmit, receive, and store fire reports, burning authorizations, weather information, and equipment records
  • Approve or deny outdoor burning authorizations and advise landowners on fire laws and safety
  • Collect and report weather conditions and crew readiness to supervisory personnel
  • Provide information to media outlets about fire conditions and coordinate assistance with other agencies
  • Maintain files, prepare reports, and assist with inventory control
  • Respond to telephone calls and radio messages, routing to appropriate personnel
  • Promote public understanding of fire control laws, safety, and department services
