Job Requirements

  • Possession of a high school diploma or GED
  • One year of management experience in waste industry, recycling programs, transportation, production, or logistics operations preferred
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Ability to engage assertively with employees to drive accountability
  • Demonstrated leadership courage and proactive coaching skills
  • Knowledge of training, supervision, and evaluation
  • Familiarity with supervisory techniques, resource allocation, planning, and budgeting
  • Ability to use computers and technology effectively

Job Qualifications

  • Possession of a high school diploma or GED
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • One year of management experience in waste industry, recycling programs, transportation, production, or logistics operations preferred
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Class "B" Commercial Driver's License preferred upon hire or within six months
  • Ability to directly engage with employees to address performance concerns and provide clear feedback
  • Demonstrates leadership courage by proactively coaching employees
  • Knowledge of employee training, supervision, and evaluation principles
  • Familiarity with supervisory techniques, resource allocation, planning, and budgeting
  • Ability to promote waste zero philosophy and environmental stewardship
  • Skilled in developing strategies for managing challenges and opportunities
  • Strong computer and technology skills
  • Proficient communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Effective presentation and interpersonal skills

Job Duties

  • Manages a team of drivers and other operational employees to ensure safe and effective garbage and recycling collection
  • Engages employees pre-shift and post-shift to ensure safety and service quality standards are met
  • Coaches employees through direct and candid feedback on safety protocols, standard operating procedures, and customer experience
  • Assigns employees to balance workload and special pickups for timely services
  • Arranges alternate coverage for employee absence or equipment failure
  • Ensures accountability of route completions by analyzing routes and making routing recommendations
  • Monitors work to ensure efficient and effective operations
  • Observes collection practices and enforces safety policies and procedures
  • Investigates and resolves customer inquiries and complaints, including coordinating with jurisdictional staff
  • Participates in the hiring process by conducting interviews and selecting candidates
  • Fosters a culture of accountability, respect, and collaboration
  • Leads by example to create a supportive and committed workplace
  • Uses real-time insights and technology to coach drivers and support safety
  • Generates and analyzes operational reports and makes recommendations
  • Performs or reviews pre- and post-trip inspections and safety scorecard elements
  • Investigates and reports on worker injuries, accidents, and incidents
  • Maintains time records and manages attendance issues
  • Drives trucks as needed
  • Ensures compliance with policies, procedures, and collective bargaining agreements
  • May dispatch or back-up dispatch duties
  • May represent the company in community and business meetings
  • Performs other duties as assigned
