Job Requirements

  • master's degree preferred or bachelor's degree in relevant field
  • three years mid-management or supervisory experience in recreation or related field
  • two or more years additional relevant experience
  • valid state of florida driver’s license with good driving record
  • ability to complete annual hands-only cpr training
  • background screening through florida care provider background screening clearinghouse may be required
  • excellent communication skills
  • leadership and relationship building skills
  • ability to work independently and innovatively
  • proficiency in budget management and strategic planning

Job Qualifications

  • master's degree preferred or bachelor's degree in parks and recreation administration, public administration, hospitality, event planning, marketing, sports management or related field
  • three years of mid-management or supervisory experience in recreation, non-profit management, event management, or hospitality industry
  • two or more years of additional relevant experience in community recreation or hospitality programs
  • valid state of florida driver’s license with good driving record
  • annual hands-only cpr training or ability to obtain within six months of hire
  • certified park and recreation professional (c.p.r.p.) national certification preferred
  • any recreation profession related combination of training, education and experience

Job Duties

  • independently manage comprehensive operations and assigned responsibilities within the department
  • serve as the primary coordinator for human resources administrative processes and budget oversight
  • manage purchasing, contract administration, and legal compliance coordination
  • develop and implement standardized operating procedures
  • supervise facility operations including merchandising, inventory control, and food and beverage services
  • oversee recreation programming and special events
  • plan and execute innovative community services ensuring fiscal sustainability
  • collect and analyze data to inform decision-making and policy development
  • develop and oversee long-term department plans
  • cultivate and maintain positive working relationships and partnerships
  • inspire and guide staff towards achieving departmental and city missions
  • plan and evaluate communication, public relations, and marketing initiatives
  • research grants and funding opportunities
  • organize and complete projects within resource constraints
  • ensure legal, ethical, and safety compliance
  • manage assigned staff, projects, and operations with clear leadership
  • project staffing needs and support staff development
  • leverage technology to improve operations and customer service
  • contribute to department and city-wide committees
  • fulfill emergency operation duties and respond to issues outside normal hours
  • handle public and staff concerns positively and align resources to challenges
  • prepare and present council agenda items as directed
  • act as Manager of Duty when assigned
  • perform other related duties as required or assigned
