Job Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Must have held a driver’s license for at least 3 years
  • Must pass a drug screen including testing for impairing substances like marijuana
  • Must meet YMCA driving record standards including no more than two vehicle suspensions or reinstatements within past 3 years
  • No more than two moving violations or accidents within past 3 years
  • No major driving violations such as DUI, reckless driving, hit and run property damage, racing, driving with suspended license, speeding over 20 mph, fleeing police within past 5 years
  • No permanent disqualifying driving offenses
  • Ability to live onsite at camp
  • Ability to work full-time seasonal schedule including overnight on-call duties
  • Ability to participate in outdoor physical activities
  • Current CPR and first aid certifications required

Job Qualifications

  • Current certifications in CPR and first aid
  • 2 or more years camping or customer service experience
  • Experience with and knowledge of youth behavior management and child abuse prevention
  • Ability to respond to emergency situations
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Ability to work independently, exercise good judgment, and demonstrate organizational skills
  • Ability to participate in rigorous outdoor activities including hiking, boating, camping, and swimming
  • Ability to relate professionally to parents, caregivers, participants, and staff
  • Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the necessary knowledge, abilities, and skills
  • Preferred current state-approved first aid certification
  • Preferred current state-approved CPR certification
  • Preferred master’s degree in relevant or closely related program
  • Preferred experience working with diverse populations and anti-racism practices
  • Ability to speak additional languages helpful

Job Duties

  • Supervises assigned seasonal staff by observing, coaching, providing feedback, evaluating, and assisting with problem solving
  • Supervises and assists with specific participant supervision
  • Ensures all staff account for participants and safety at all times, especially participants needing extra support
  • Plans and implements camp programming and events
  • Assists in day-to-day operations of camp programs
  • Manages participant and staff behaviors
  • Communicates with caregivers or guardians as needed
  • Maintains high standards of housekeeping including bathrooms, cabins, and main lodge
  • Assists in keeping all program equipment in working condition and available
  • Assists in maintaining program areas in a safe and orderly condition
  • Ensures communication with support staff including kitchen and maintenance staff
  • Attends staff meetings
  • Participates in and leads specific areas of staff training
  • Stays on call overnight as assigned
  • Maintains relevant American Camping Association standards
  • Follows YMCA policies and procedures including medical, disciplinary, child abuse prevention, and emergencies
  • Performs other duties as assigned
