Fort Wayne-Allen County Airport Authority operates and manages Smith Field Airport, a key transportation and logistics hub serving the Fort Wayne region. Job Requirements
- high school equivalent education
- six months maintenance-related work experience
- basic computer operations experience
- valid driver license
- pass pre-hire drug screen
- pass random alcohol and drug testing
- pass federal fingerprint based criminal history background check
- available for recall during non-duty hours for emergencies or snow removal
- medium work ability involving lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally
- ability to work under various environmental conditions including extreme cold and heat
- ability to use two-way radio and operate tractors and other equipment
Job Qualifications
- high school equivalent education
- at least six months of maintenance-related work experience including equipment operation, concrete, building maintenance, construction, or lawn care
- customer service experience
- basic computer operations experience including email, word processing and spreadsheet applications
- knowledge of FAA, TSA, and state regulations affecting airport operations
- knowledge of airfield construction and safety requirements
- ability to plan, organize, and supervise work
- ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
- ability to maintain effective working relationships with officials, tenants, employees, and public
- ability to independently perform assigned tasks using airport equipment
- ability to use two-way radios and safely operate airfield equipment
- ability to adhere to budget
- ability to deliver excellent customer service representing the Airport Authority
Job Duties
- Perform independently essential safety and operational needs of the airport
- take corrective action as needed to ensure safe and efficient airport operations
- supervise Smith Field Airport as required
- act as project manager for assigned projects
- serve as point of contact for airport plans and programs including snow removal and mowing
- conduct daily and special inspections of all facilities for safety, security, aesthetics, and compliance
- maintain a daily shift log of airport activities
- monitor construction activities and escort contractor crews
- administer Wildlife Management Program
- assist maintenance department with facility repairs and grounds maintenance
- conduct vehicle and equipment preventative maintenance inspections
- perform janitorial duties as necessary
- ensure AWOS and PAPI inspections are completed
- operate tractor for mowing and snow removal
- communicate with aircraft using radio
- fuel aircraft and maintain fuel farm including quality control and accepting deliveries
- perform aircraft servicing such as towing, marshalling, and transient space assignments
- enforce standard operating procedures, airport rules, and federal regulations
- coordinate project management with coworkers
- ensure accurate issuance of Notices to Airmen
- maintain compliance with security, audit procedures, and policies
- respond to malfunctions or operational emergencies
- provide high-level customer service and handle complaints
- coordinate youth and community enrichment programs
- monitor access control program
- handle monies collected from fuel and sales
- conduct hangar inspections for lease compliance
- train airport employees and interns
- perform other duties as assigned
