Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1-3 years relevant experience preferred
  • Valid Florida driver’s license within six months of hire
  • Ability to pass DOT/FAA drug and alcohol testing
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug screenings background checks and DMV verification
  • Knowledge of FAA regulations and company flight manuals
  • Strong analytical skills for weather and operational risk assessment
  • Ability to work rotating 12-hour shifts including holidays and emergency duty
  • Familiarity with aviation navigation and safety procedures
  • Excellent radio communication practices

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • 1-3 years experience as a Part 135 OCC Communications Specialist preferred
  • Experience in HEMS preferred
  • Knowledge of dispatching and call-routing software
  • Familiarity with GPS and aviation ground support software
  • Understanding of meteorology aircraft navigation and FAA regulations
  • Working knowledge of regulatory requirements
  • Ability to utilize various software systems
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work rotating shifts including nights and weekends

Job Duties

  • Monitors answers interprets prioritizes and dispatches 911 calls and hospital calls
  • Computes the amount of fuel required for safe flight completion
  • Analyzes weather data to determine safe flight routes
  • Prepares detailed flight plans including weight limits weather reports and NOTAMS
  • Reviews inspection status and aircraft logs collaborating with maintenance and operations directors
  • Validates suitability of crew and aircraft for each departure
  • Collaborates with Pilot in Command to finalize flight plans and shares safety responsibility
  • Prepares and signs dispatch releases authorizing flight departures
  • Delays or cancels flights if unsafe conditions exist
  • Monitors flight progress providing real-time updates to crews
  • Updates pilots on weather or flight plan changes recommending alternates
  • Initiates accident and incident notifications documenting all details
  • Assists supervisor with maintaining equipment and procedural standards
  • Utilizes software systems and technology for operational duties
  • Works with multidisciplinary teams for patient transport excellence
  • Responds to hospital interfacility transport requests evaluating feasibility
  • Practices appropriate radio communication procedures
  • Communicates shift change briefings with flight crews
  • Maintains positive relationships with colleagues public and emergency services
  • Applies FAA Flight Dispatch practices to ground ambulance dispatch
  • Maintains flight and weather records per federal regulations
  • Works rotating 12-hour shifts including holidays
  • Performs emergency duties as required including disaster response
