Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Minimum of 3 months prior experience cleaning operating rooms required
  • Ability to read and understand written instructions in English
  • Ability to operate powered machinery safely and effectively
  • Ability to respond to moderately complex written or verbal instructions in English
  • Ability to interact courteously with patients and visitors

Job Duties

  • Maintain operating room cleaning practices and follow proper infection control guidelines
  • Respond to directions or pages to clean O.R.s to ensure timely turnover of Operating/Procedure Rooms
  • Perform between-case cleaning to ensure rooms are sterile, clean, and safe for use
  • Clean and sanitize O.R. surfaces, including procedure tables, equipment, and floors according to procedures
  • Wash and decontaminate equipment as assigned, including tubes and canisters from operating or cardiac procedure rooms
  • Arrange the operating room to meet OR protocol
  • Perform periodic terminal cleaning, including removing portable equipment, detaching removable objects, cleaning lighting and air duct surfaces, and cleaning all surfaces down to the floor
  • Collect and dispose of trash, soiled linen, and recyclable materials
  • replace receptacle liners and recycling totes
  • Clean and maintain OR facilities and equipment, including walls, windows, furniture, I.V. poles, baseboards, and operating room equipment (ultrasound machines, robotic equipment, anesthesia monitors, carts, etc.)
  • Remove soiled linens/protective coverings, clean and remake beds, stretchers, and exam tables
  • Assist with moving equipment and special setups requiring multiple individuals
  • Report broken equipment or any unusual situations or delays
  • Work during weekends as scheduled
