Job Requirements

  • High school graduate or GED
  • Knowledge of sterile technique
  • Functional knowledge of surgery case set-ups
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Motivated, self-directed and assumes responsibility for actions
  • Ability to multi-task and plan for needs of all rooms
  • Physical and emotional attributes to meet requirements of position
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience in a surgical environment preferred
  • Familiarity with sterile techniques and procedures
  • Basic understanding of medical terminology
  • Ability to operate sterilization equipment
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • Ability to handle physical demands of the job

Job Duties

  • Works cooperatively with other team members to facilitate room cleaning and turnover time
  • moves into room just prior to patient exit and performs cleaning as needed
  • Performs other cleaning responsibilities as assigned by department, including cleaning surgical equipment not handled by environmental services
  • Performs stocking responsibilities as assigned by department not performed by materials management
  • Performs department transportation needs as assigned, including moving equipment, instruments and patients
  • Performs basic patient care needs such as holding extremities for preps and assists with patient positioning
  • Maintains equipment and environment standards by checking and logging humidity levels and logs temperatures and solution warmers
  • Performs biological testing on autoclaves, STERIS testing and refrigerator temperature testing
  • Demonstrates aseptic technique and opens sterile supplies for procedures
  • Participates in operation of autoclaves and cold sterilization units
  • Transports specimens to pathology using universal precautions
  • Greets and communicates with patients, significant others and healthcare team consistent with hospital policies
  • Demonstrates flexibility while responding to department and hospital needs
  • supports continuous improvement through team participation and personal development
  • Assumes responsibility for maintaining safety policy knowledge and personal competency
  • Maintains documentation for participation in all required safety education
  • Performs other related job duties contributing to hospital values
  • Works on call status for weekends on a rotating basis
