The Department of Community Justice (DCJ) Juvenile Services Division, located in Multnomah County, Oregon, is a recognized national leader in adult and juvenile community justice. DCJ is committed to enhancing public safety through positive change by supervising juveniles on probation and operating the Donald E. Long Juvenile Detention Facility. Within this division, the Nutrition Services Unit plays a vital role by providing balanced meals and snacks to youth in detention every day of the year. Job Requirements
- Completion of twelfth (12) grade or equivalent
- Up to one (1) year of relevant dishwashing, school lunch, catering, restaurant, café/deli or institutional food service experience
- Possession of valid Oregon Food Handler's Card at time of hire or within 30 days
- Ability to lift 50-75 pounds highly desired
- Ability to push/pull 200-400 pounds desired
- Ability to pass thorough background investigation including criminal, civil, driving, military, educational and employment history
- Availability for variable shifts between 5:00 am - 7:30 pm
- Ability to work on an On-Call basis up to 20 hours per week
- Willingness to perform daily sanitation and cleaning duties
- Ability to handle cash and operate register
- Must be able to serve youth directly in a custody setting
Job Qualifications
- Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12) grade
- Up to one (1) year of relevant dishwashing, school lunch, catering or institutional school lunch, restaurant, cafe/deli, or catering, or institutional food service experience
- Must possess a valid Oregon Food Handler's Card at the time of hire or within 30 days of hire
- Ability to lift 50-75 pounds preferred
- Ability to push/pull 200-400 pounds preferred
- Cash handling experience preferred
- Must pass a thorough background investigation
- Ability to provide prompt, welcoming, and professional customer service
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Good organizational and prioritization skills
- Commitment to cleanliness and hygiene
- Willingness to complete required training related to School Nutrition Programs
Job Duties
- Prepare snacks and assist cooks with service
- Wash utensils, pots, pans, food carts, trays, and food preparation/serving/storage areas by machine or by hand in accordance with sanitation guidelines
- Perform various daily cleaning duties
- Receive food, equipment, and supplies and rotate inventory to meet federal, state and county standards
- Deliver food throughout the facility and serve meals
- Operate commercial kitchen equipment including dishwashers and food mixing/preparation equipment
- Handle cash, operate cash register, and reconcile cash drawer at the end of each shift
- Perform other duties as required to run a large institutional kitchen, café, and catering company
