Job Qualifications

  • Custodial experience in an academic or institutional setting
  • ability to work weekends, evenings, graveyard shifts and alternate schedules
  • experience maintaining floors including sweeping, mopping, stripping, sealing, waxing, polishing, vacuuming, and proper use of powered floor cleaning equipment
  • working knowledge of custodial methods, equipment and materials
  • ability to set up and tear down large tables, chairs, podiums and special event equipment
  • ability to lift and move heavy objects and climb ladders, scaffolds, roofs, and multi-structured buildings
  • ability to make sound decisions
  • ability to work individually or in teams in a service-oriented environment
  • ability to read and write at a level appropriate to duties
  • ability to follow verbal and written safety instructions
  • ability to operate and care for custodial equipment and supplies
  • ability to use custodial systems including work order tracking and two-way radios
  • ability to observe safety requirements and safe work practices
  • ability to perform regular physical activity
  • ability to establish and maintain cooperative work relationships
  • ability to move up to 50 pounds
  • possession of a valid California driver’s license may be required

Job Duties

  • Clean and disinfect restrooms and replenish paper and soap supplies daily
  • ensure student populated areas such as classrooms, lobbies, locker rooms are ready for students each day
  • empty, clean and disinfect waste baskets and recycling containers in all assigned areas
  • clean chalk boards, chalk rails, and replenish supplies
  • clean interior and exterior windows in all assigned areas
  • vacuum all carpeted areas and remove stains
  • dust light fixtures and replace fluorescent tubes and incandescent bulbs as needed
  • arrange and re-arrange furniture in all classrooms as needed
  • act as a caretaker for the facility by anticipating building repairs and occupant requirements
  • lock and unlock buildings as assigned to safeguard building and equipment
  • sweep, scrub, auto scrub, dust mop, and damp mop all hard floors
  • maintain custodial closets orderly and fully stocked
  • polish woodwork and metal surfaces, clean furniture and upholstery
  • carry an assigned radio to communicate during shift
  • respond to custodial and cleaning emergencies
  • gather and deliver recyclables to central aggregation areas
  • make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment and furniture such as oiling doors and tightening screws
  • perform other duties as assigned
