Job Description

Multnomah County's Department of Community Justice (DCJ) Juvenile Services Division is a key government entity dedicated to ensuring juvenile community safety through positive change. Recognized nationally for its evidence-based practices, DCJ operates the Donald E. Long Juvenile Detention Facility and supervises youth both onsite and in the community on probation. Their Nutrition Services Unit serves as an essential service, preparing and providing nutritious meals for youth in detention and operating the Courtyard Cafe, which serves the public during the weekdays. Job Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Must pass a thorough background investigation including review of criminal, civil, driving, military, educational, and employment history
  • Must be able to work variable shifts on an on-call basis between 5:00 am to 7:30 pm
  • Must possess and provide valid Oregon Food Handler's Card
  • Ability to lift 50-75 pounds
  • Ability to push/pull 200-400 pounds
  • Some positions may require a valid driver’s license

Job Qualifications

  • Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade
  • One year of cooking experience in food service settings such as school lunch, restaurant, cafe/deli, catering, or institutional programs
  • Possess a valid Oregon Food Handler's Card
  • Ability to follow recipes accurately and work in a fast-paced food service environment
  • Experience with baking, broiling, frying, and steaming cooking methods
  • Basic knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards
  • Ability to handle special dietary requirements
  • Good communication and teamwork skills

Job Duties

  • Prepare meals according to planned menus and recipes including accommodations for special dietary needs
  • Clean utensils, equipment, and food preparation areas following sanitation guidelines
  • Assist with receiving food orders, equipment, and supplies and rotate inventory
  • Support preparation of nutrition and administrative reports and maintain records for compliance
  • Participate in meal preparation for catering events and cafe service including hot entrees and grab-n-go items
  • Implement USDA Standard Operating Procedures and Food Service Food Safety Plan
  • Support culinary job training to youth using established curricula
