Job Description

Multnomah County's Department of Community Justice (DCJ) is a nationally recognized leader in both adult and juvenile community justice, committed to promoting community safety through positive change. The Juvenile Services Division operates the county's juvenile detention facility and supervises juveniles on probation, striving to provide safe, supportive environments with data-informed and evidence-based practices. Job Requirements

  • Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade
  • One year of cooking experience in school lunch, restaurant, café/deli, catering, or institutional food service
  • Must possess a valid Oregon Food Handler's Card
  • Must pass thorough background investigation including criminal, civil, driving, military, educational, and employment history
  • Ability to lift 50-75 pounds preferred
  • Ability to push/pull 200-400 pounds preferred
  • Some positions may require a valid driver's license

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One year of cooking experience in a school lunch, restaurant, café/deli, catering, or institutional food service
  • Valid Oregon Food Handler's Card
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Ability to follow recipes and food safety guidelines
  • Teamwork and communication skills
  • Ability to work flexible, on-call shifts

Job Duties

  • Prepare and cook meals according to planned menus and recipes including special dietary needs
  • Clean and sanitize utensils, equipment, and food preparation areas
  • Receive food orders and rotate inventory
  • Assist with meal preparation for catering events and café service
  • Follow USDA and Food Service Safety Plan procedures
  • Support culinary job training for youth when applicable
  • Maintain records and assist with nutrition and administrative reports
