Job Description
The American Cancer Society is a nationwide, community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem. Established with the mission of ending cancer as we know it for everyone, the American Cancer Society harnesses the talents and efforts of its employees and over 1.3 million volunteers to raise the bar in cancer research, education, advocacy, and patient services. This organization is built upon a diverse culture that incorporates individuals from varied backgrounds and experiences, enabling it to better serve communities across the United States. Its multifaceted approach includes advancing innovative research, promoting healthy lifestyles, and providing critical support to those affected by cancer. The Society takes pride in its culture of dedication, collaboration, and community focus, making it a recognized leader in cancer care and prevention.
The Concierge role at the American Cancer Society's Hope Lodge facility in Jacksonville, FL, is a vital position that serves as the first point of contact for guests. This part-time position offers an opportunity to be involved in a role that supports the broader mission of the Society by ensuring that guests feel welcomed, safe, and supported during their stay. Paying $18.59 per hour, the role typically involves working evenings and overnight shifts for less than 20 hours per week and is not benefits eligible. However, shift differential pay is provided for hours worked outside regular daytime hours, including evenings, weekends, and overnight shifts.
The primary responsibilities of the Concierge include managing front desk operations, greeting guests, handling check-in and check-out procedures, and offering information about the lodge amenities and community resources. The Concierge also coordinates transportation and the EMPOWER Program services and schedules to ensure guest mobility and access to essential services. Responding promptly to guest requests, concerns, and emergencies is critical for maintaining the supportive atmosphere central to the Hope Lodge experience. The role demands excellent organization skills to maintain an orderly front desk area and accurate guest records. Additionally, monitoring lobby security and implementing safety protocols are essential duties to safeguard guests and staff.
This position requires candidates to bring a combination of customer service expertise, communication skills, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and multi-line phone systems is necessary, alongside a commitment to delivering excellent customer service with strong problem-solving skills. The role also requires physical stamina to stand and walk for extended periods and handle occasional manual tasks such as lifting luggage and assisting guests with their needs.
Joining the American Cancer Society as a Concierge means becoming part of an organization that not only values diversity and inclusion but also offers opportunities for professional development and engagement within a compassionate community. Individuals in this role contribute directly to the supportive experience of cancer patients and their families, making a meaningful difference in their lives during challenging times. The American Cancer Society supports its workforce with programs and benefits designed to foster wellness and career growth. This is a rewarding opportunity for those seeking flexible part-time work with a purpose-driven organization committed to making a significant impact on public health.
