Job Requirements

  • Completion of or willingness to complete Food Service Unit courses I-IV or skilled culinary training
  • Knowledge of HACCP procedures and ServSafe certification
  • Ability to read and convert recipe measurements
  • Knowledge of USDA Child Nutrition Program meal patterns
  • Prior cooking or baking experience as a general worker
  • Cooperative attitude with students, staff, and co-workers
  • Demonstrated dependability and regular attendance
  • Physical ability to lift 40 pounds, stand long hours, and work in extreme temperatures
  • Acceptable criminal background check and no Child Abuse Registry entries
  • Negative TB test less than one year old
  • Signed Social Security Card
  • Valid I-9 with appropriate identification
  • Mandatory direct deposit of paycheck
  • Successful completion of Fit for Duty physical assessment

Job Qualifications

  • Completion of or willingness to complete Food Service Unit courses I-IV or skilled training in culinary arts
  • Knowledge of HACCP procedures and ServSafe certification
  • Ability to read recipes and convert measurements accurately
  • Knowledge of USDA Meal Pattern requirements under Child Nutrition Program
  • Prior cooking and baking experience especially in a school or general work setting
  • Demonstrated leadership and cooperative attitude
  • Dependability and regular attendance
  • Ability to operate kitchen equipment and basic cash register
  • Strong communication skills for directing staff
  • Physical capability to handle job demands
  • Clean background with no child abuse registry entries

Job Duties

  • Perform skilled work in preparation of all menu items according to standardized recipes
  • Schedule preparation time to ensure menu items are ready promptly and batch cooked for quality
  • Prepare daily menu items in appropriate quantity maintaining adequate portions and avoiding overproduction
  • Maintain written production and temperature records and inform manager of supplies needed
  • Implement HACCP procedures for receiving, preparing, and storing food according to federal, state, and district regulations
  • Order, receive, check in, issue, and store food and supplies following HACCP guidelines
  • Ensure proper use, operation, and cleanliness of all kitchen equipment including steamers, ranges, ovens, slicers, and mixers
  • Operate cash register and learn manager computer software
  • Keep work and storage areas clean and assist in sanitation tasks
  • Assist Nutrition Services Manager with inventory control and physical inventory using computerized systems
  • Provide leadership and directives to staff on prep area tasks and food safety
  • Accept alternating assignments designated by Nutrition Services Manager
  • Complete tasks necessary to expedite meal preparation, serving, and cleanup regardless of classification
  • Display cooperative attitude with students, staff, and co-workers
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
