Job Requirements

  • Completion of or willingness to complete Food Service Unit courses I-IV or skilled culinary arts training
  • Knowledge of HACCP procedures during food preparation and storage
  • ServSafe certification
  • Ability to read recipes and convert measurements
  • Knowledge of USDA Meal Pattern requirements as per USDA Child Nutrition Program
  • Prior outside cooking or baking experience as school general worker
  • Cooperative attitude and leadership ability
  • Evidence of dependability including regular attendance
  • Physical ability to lift at least 40 pounds, work in extreme temperatures, and stand on cement floors for up to six hours
  • Acceptable criminal background report and no entries on child abuse registry

  • Acceptable criminal background and child abuse registry clearance

Job Duties

  • Perform skilled work in the preparation of all menu items according to a pre-planned menu using selected standardized recipes
  • Schedule preparation time so that menu items are ready promptly at serving times and batch cooked to ensure quality and freshness
  • Prepare daily menu items in appropriate quantity assuring adequate portions and avoiding over production
  • Inform manager of supplies needed well in advance
  • Maintain written production and temperature records
  • Implement proper HACCP procedures during receiving, preparation, and storage of all food following federal, state, and district procedures
  • Order, receive, check in, issue, and store food and supplies according to HACCP and procedures
  • Maintain cleanliness and proper use of all kitchen equipment
  • Operate the cash register and learn manager computer software
  • Keep work and storage areas clean and assist with sweeping or sanitizing cafeteria tables
  • Assist Nutrition Services Manager with maintaining perpetual food inventory and take physical inventory utilizing computerized systems
  • Provide verbal and written directives to staff regarding prep area, portion sizes, cooking and holding temperatures
  • Accept alternating assignments designated by Nutrition Services Manager
  • Expedite preparation, serving, and cleanup tasks without regard to classification
  • Display an attitude of accommodation and cooperation to students, faculty, staff, and co-workers
  • Perform other related duties as needed or assigned
