Job Requirements
- Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade
- Some paid or volunteer experience in food preparation and serving preferred
- Demonstrated dependability, reliability, and good attendance
- Ability to speak and understand verbal Spanish strongly desired
- Possession and maintenance of a Food Handler's Certificate issued by the County Health Department
- Ability to effectively use safety equipment designated for this position
- Good health and physical condition free of communicable diseases
- Ability to lift, carry, and move food and supplies up to 50 pounds
- Ability to work standing or walking for sustained periods
- Some positions may require a valid California Driver's License and acceptable driving record
- Ability to safely operate food preparation equipment and material handling tools
- Willingness to obtain and maintain First Aid and CPR certificates is desired
Job Qualifications
- Basic knowledge of cleaning methods and procedures
- Basic knowledge of kitchen and food serving utensils and equipment
- Understanding of basic food preparation, serving, and transporting methods
- Familiarity with sanitation and safety procedures related to food preparation and serving
- Basic written and oral English proficiency
- Simple math skills for counting, adding, and subtracting
- Ability to learn to operate food service appliances and equipment safely
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to maintain effective relationships with students and staff
- Ability to work independently and maintain work schedules
Job Duties
- Assist in inventory control, receiving, and storing of food and supplies
- Assist in maintaining proper care of equipment and sanitation of the kitchen
- Assist in the preparation of food such as sandwiches, salads, salad dressings, entrees, snack foods and desserts
- Assist in the preparation of monies to be transported as directed
- Assist in the preparation, packaging, and serving of food including slicing, assembling, mixing, stirring, blending or measuring ingredients
- Establish and maintain effective rapport with students, parents, and community members
- Handle cash transactions accurately and operate cash register or computer terminal as cashier
