Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- completion of college nutrition class preferred
- must pass Physical Capacity Exam including 50-pound lifting requirement
- effective communication skills
- ability to work various shifts including part-time and per diem
- ability to interact politely and compassionately with patients
- knowledge of dietary protocols and therapeutic diets
- ability to use computer systems such as Computrition and Soarian
- willingness to comply with hygiene and safety protocols

Job Duties
- Obtain menu selections from patients in a timely manner
- make appropriate decisions at patient bedside regarding food requests and preferences based on patient diet order
- refer to clinical dietitian as necessary
- record likes and dislikes appropriately in Computrition
- verify tray tickets for accuracy with HUC before meal trays are delivered
- verify patient identification before leaving meal tray using two forms of patient identification
- deliver meal trays, open packages, and set up bedside tables as necessary
- sanitize hands before assisting with tray set-up and again before leaving the patient's room
- communicate messages and recent diet orders via telephone to the diet office
- may be assigned to deliver carts to units
- provide room services, assemble trays according to current diet order and deliver to patient
- stock units according to par levels
- keep patient information protected and confidential
- return meal carts to kitchen and clean up spills, notifying Environmental Services for deep cleaning
- keep Computrition current and organized with changes, transfers and discharges (diet clerk specific)
- utilize Smart Sub appropriately
- print tray tickets and place in correct trayline order
- record daily meal count for trayline
- perform checker position on trayline
- update Diet Office Communication Log frequently
- access Soarian to obtain patient diet information and location
- keep supply of necessary forms available
- print Daily Patron Roster Report
- assure Diet Office phone is covered before leaving
- operate computer, fax machine, copy machine and phone/voice mail properly
- demonstrate knowledge and skills to provide care appropriate to the population served
- perform other duties as assigned
