Job Requirements
- Hold a valid unrestricted Class D driver’s license with a clear driving record
- Be 18 years of age or older with a valid driver’s license to operate equipment and vehicles
- Ability to meet the physical requirements and work in environmental conditions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations
- Successfully pass a background check including conflict of interest review, criminal history check, education verification, employment reference check, and license/certification verification
- Legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship for employment visa status
- New Division of Forestry pilots must pass an initial agency flight check by the Division’s Lead Pilot
Job Qualifications
- Possess a valid FAA commercial pilot certificate or ATP and appropriate aircraft ratings
- Have a minimum flight experience of 1500 total hours in airplanes, 1200 hours as pilot-in-command, 200 hours category and class to be flown, 150 turbine time in airplanes, 25 make and model to be flown, 500 cross country hours, 200 hours in typical terrain operations, 100 night flight hours, 50 instrument flight hours, and 75 instrument actual/simulated flight hours
- Possess a valid First or Second Class FAA medical certificate
- Ability to operate aircraft while observing and recognizing ground-based activities
- Ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships with internal and external customers
- Sufficient mathematical, oral, and written communication skills
- Ability to observe, record, analyze, interpret, and communicate information clearly and accurately
Job Duties
- Provide pilot services and specialized flying techniques to maximize aircraft utilization within the Department of Natural Resources and other government agencies as needed
- Establish flight planning and maintenance practices to ensure aircraft is in a flight-ready status
- Fulfill administrative duties as a member of the regional staff to conduct aviation consulting, reporting, and planning efficiently and effectively
- Properly use, maintain, and store issued equipment to ensure serviceability
- Provide fixed-wing pilot support for wildfire suppression and detection, aerial photography, and passenger transport
