Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in food production or commercial kitchen settings
  • Knowledge of ServSafe program and local health regulations
  • Ability to read and follow multi-step recipes
  • Basic math skills for weights and measures
  • Ability to operate and maintain cooking equipment
  • Physical ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds
  • Strong manual dexterity and sensory skills
  • Ability to bend, reach, twist, squat, kneel, push, and pull
  • Experience with safe food transport practices

  • Experience working with diverse populations including staff, interns, and volunteers
  • Excellent organizational skills suitable for a team-oriented, fast-paced environment
  • Proficient knife skills
  • Ability to operate all food service equipment
  • Proficient in food preparation for large groups

Job Duties

  • Assist in the food production and maintenance of the commercial kitchen
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulations including ServSafe program and local health department regulations
  • Assist with receiving, checking temperatures, and properly storing deliveries following FIFO guidelines
  • Read and follow multi-step recipes accurately
  • Operate, maintain, and clean steam, electric, and gas cooking equipment
  • Monitor kitchen equipment and coordinate maintenance activities
  • Post relevant information for staff and volunteers
  • Interact with clients and community sites for coordination and quality assurance
  • Comply fully with all agency policies, procedures, and training programs
  • Prepare orders, stock, and deliver items for the Food Pantry as needed
  • Deliver food items using safe transport practices
  • Share professional knowledge and seek development opportunities
  • Represent the agency in all forums and demonstrate commitment to agency philosophy
  • Identify and implement cost containment options
  • Plan and organize work hours effectively to meet agency needs
  • Exercise effective judgment and maintain professional conduct and appearance
