Job Requirements

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds
  • Ability to stand and walk 6-8 hours during an 8-hour shift
  • Hand use including single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling
  • Ability to perform motions including bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching
  • Exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals
  • Ability to work in temperatures up to 90 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Ability to work in wet and dry conditions
  • Availability to work flexible schedules including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to use tools and equipment including knives, box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and heavy machinery
  • May require use of ladders
  • High school diploma or equivalent

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum 6-12 months retail or restaurant experience
  • Completion of Bakery Decorator Apprentice training program or equivalent experience
  • Prior experience in professional bakery or grocery retail preferred
  • Efficient cake and pastry decorating skills including intermediate piping techniques
  • Understanding of color theory related to buttercream color blending
  • Ability to apply proper technique with various icings including Swiss Buttercream, Ganache, and meringues
  • Ability to follow recipes, directions, and procedures
  • Effective time management and organization skills
  • Advanced knife handling and tool safety
  • Basic math skills for recipe conversions
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to meet customer service expectations in all interactions
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work in a fast-paced environment with urgency

Job Duties

  • Assemble, fill, and finish/decorate cakes, tarts, select pastry, and special-order bakery items
  • Build, ice, and decorate cakes following standard procedures to meet business demand
  • Complete production and spoilage records according to standard procedures, adjusting production sheets as necessary
  • Prioritize production lists and recommend adjustments as needed
  • Merchandise and showcase products in sales display case, ensuring freshness and proper rotation
  • Provide guidance and support for Bakery Decorator Apprentices and team members
  • Create special order cake designs based on customer preferences
  • Provide excellent customer service, address customer needs, model suggestive selling, answer phones and pages promptly
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary working environment, maintain equipment per cleanliness and safety standards
  • Perform opening, mid, and closing duties, ensure accuracy of signage and pricing
  • Perform other duties as assigned
