Job Requirements

  • Minimum age 18
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One or more years of experience
  • Completion of food safety and sanitation training and training on equipment operation, cleaning and maintenance
  • Knowledge of computer systems and equipment like PC, symbol, scales, label machine
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Communication and interpersonal skills
  • Reading and writing skills
  • Planning and organizing skills
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced retail environment
  • Ability to work with customers attentively
  • Ability to perform department-specific physical tasks such as lifting heavy weights up to 55 lbs, frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and other physical activities

Job Duties

  • Proactively provides superior customer service
  • Takes orders from customers by telephone or in person
  • Answers customer questions regarding products
  • assists them with selections
  • Works independently with minimal supervision
  • Applies expertise and experience to prepare, package, and merchandise fresh product effectively
  • focuses on inspecting for quality
  • Slices, packages, labels, rotates, and culls products for poor quality
  • Assists in technical areas as needed (e.g., more difficult set-up and clean-up
  • operation of Tortilleria)
  • Uses advanced selling techniques and advanced product knowledge and experience to meet customer needs and build department sales
  • Cleans and sanitizes display cases
  • Operates and maintains all/more complex equipment properly
  • Complies with H-E-B food safety and sanitation standards
  • Complies with department/store operating procedures
  • Records production and shrink to aid in production planning (Bakery)
  • Assists in technical areas as needed (baking, frying, decorating - Bakery)
  • Culls bakery products for poor quality and expiration dates
  • Ensures service counter customers are greeted and taken care of in a timely manner (Deli)
  • Manages make ready application for e-Commerce orders (Deli)
  • Uses fresh production planner and completes inventory processes (Deli)
  • Assists in training other partners
  • Ensures catering orders are ready for customer pickup (Deli)
  • Communicates product inventory concerns to lead or manager
  • Provides product demos and education
  • Ensures sanitation and maintenance of deli slicers
  • Serves and packages products at customer's request (Prepared foods)
  • Educates customers on preparation/reheating instructions
  • Prepackages condiments for prepared food items
  • Cuts, slices, dices, chops food in preparation for chef
