high school diploma or equivalent
completion of company orientation
completion of food safety and sanitation training upon hire
ability to function in a fast-paced retail environment
ability to work with customers attentively
ability to perform department-specific tasks
good physical stamina to lift and manage heavy items depending on department

Job Duties

provides superior customer service
takes orders from customers by telephone or in person
answers customer questions regarding products
assists customers with selections
prepares, packages, and merchandises fresh product effectively
slices, packages, labels, rotates, and culls products for poor quality
assists in technical areas as needed, including basic set-up and clean-up processes
uses suggestive selling techniques and basic product knowledge to meet customer needs and build department sales
cleans and sanitizes display cases
operates and maintains equipment properly
complies with H-E-B food safety and sanitation standards
complies with department and store operating procedures
records production and shrink to aid in production planning (bakery)
assists in baking, frying, and decorating (bakery)
culls bakery products for poor quality and expiration dates
takes care of service counter customers (deli)
uses ordering system applications (deli)
uses Fresh Production Planner
performs inventory management processes as required
ensures catering orders are prepared and ready on time
performs sanitation and maintenance tasks for deli slicers
serves and packages products at customer's request (prepared foods)
educates customers on preparation and reheating instructions of prepared foods
repackages condiments for prepared food items
cuts, slices, dices, and chops food in preparation for chef
