As a dedicated agency, Discover Denton aims to promote the city as a premier destination for conventions, meetings, trade shows, and other events. Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Hospitality Management, Public Relations, Hotel Management, or related field
  • Three years' experience in convention sales or related field
  • Must have and maintain a valid Class C Driver's License and minimum automobile liability insurance
  • Must obtain Texas Class C Driver's License and insurance within 90 days of hire
  • Must pass drug test, driver's license check, criminal background check, employment verification, and SSN verification
  • Ability to work after normal business hours, special events, and weekends
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 25% of the time
  • Ability to handle prolonged sitting, standing, and occasional physical exertion including lifting up to 20 pounds
  • Must maintain professional composure under stress and frequent interruptions

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Hospitality Management, Public Relations, Hotel Management, or related field
  • Three years of experience in convention sales or related field
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and Local Government laws and regulations
  • Proficiency in sales techniques and marketing practices for convention solicitation
  • Strong judgment, creativity, and decision-making skills
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office 365 and other necessary software
  • Effective communication skills both oral and written
  • Ability to develop innovative programs and content
  • Strong interpersonal relationship skills
  • Ability to manage stressful situations professionally
  • Ability to work both independently and in teams while handling multiple tasks
  • Knowledge of contract management for hotels and event centers

Job Duties

  • Solicit convention and meeting business through direct presentations and trade show contacts
  • Assist in planning travel and trade show calendar and budget
  • Generate leads to attract new and repeat convention business
  • Research and maintain accounts for future business and manage sales activities
  • Create marketing presentations and conduct visits to secure additional business
  • Collaborate with hotel staff to meet room night demands and exchange vital information
  • Monitor and analyze convention business to improve performance metrics
  • Assist with site inspections, client entertaining, and familiarization trips
  • Coordinate site inspections and tours for meeting planners
  • Establish relationships in industry organizations and promote the City nationally
  • Create and maintain reports, correspondences, and bid proposals
  • Assist with special projects as needed
