Job Description

This position is located within the Food and Beverage Division of the Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department in the Navy Region Southwest. This department is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for Navy personnel and their families by providing a variety of recreational programs and services. Job Requirements

  • No formal education required
  • Prior food and beverage serving experience preferred
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Must comply with all safety and hygiene standards
  • Responsible alcohol service training/certification preferred

Job Qualifications

  • Skill to serve beverages and meals in the proper manner and sequence
  • Knowledge of proper food handling techniques such as the correct side to serve from and the correct side to remove from
  • Knowledge of the composition of all food items on the menu, whether American or foreign
  • Knowledge of available beverages and wines and which wines complement specific meals and their proper serving temperatures
  • Skill in proper table setting techniques
  • Knowledge of simple math calculations to tabulate checks
  • Ability to recognize intoxicated patrons when serving alcohol

Job Duties

  • Serve beverages and meals in the proper manner and sequence
  • Apply proper food handling techniques including serving and removing food from the correct side
  • Possess knowledge of all food items on the menu, including American and foreign dishes
  • Understand beverage and wine selections and their appropriate serving temperatures
  • Utilize skill in proper table setting techniques
  • Perform simple math calculations to tabulate customer checks
  • Recognize intoxicated patrons and adhere to responsible service protocols
