The Food and Beverage Division within the Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Department of the Navy Region Southwest is a dedicated sector aimed at enhancing the quality of life for Navy personnel and their families. Job Requirements

  • Education level not applicable as this position is not in a positive education series
  • prior experience preferred or relevant to food preparation
  • ability to read and understand written instructions
  • basic arithmetic skills
  • knowledge of food preparation techniques
  • understanding of sanitation principles
  • ability to maintain cleanliness and order in the kitchen environment

Job Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of food preparation methods and procedures in small quantities
  • ability to read and understand food service materials
  • ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations related to recipe preparation and serving estimations
  • knowledge of food characteristics and cooking times
  • skill in planning and coordinating food preparation timing
  • knowledge of sanitation principles

Job Duties

  • Perform a full range of menu item preparation
  • maintain cooking and serving equipment in clean and orderly conditions
  • read and follow food labels and standardized recipes
  • measure and multiply ingredients for recipes
  • calculate the number of servings required
  • evaluate food characteristics such as color, flavor, and texture
  • coordinate timing of food preparation steps to meet serving times
  • apply sanitation principles in all food handling and preparation activities
