Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent GED certificate
  • Two years of satisfactory full-time paid experience in custodial, protection, museum attendant or related work
  • New York State Guard certificate
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and climb stairs
  • Ability to walk, bend, lift moderate weights and use cleaning products
  • Ability to work weekends including weekends as part of schedule
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent GED certificate or two years of full-time paid experience in custodial, protection, museum attendant or related work
  • New York State Guard certificate required
  • CPR/AED/FSD and/or Fire Guard certification preferred but training provided
  • Prior museum or art-related experience a plus
  • Fluency in languages additional to English preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational and planning skills
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service and maintain professionalism
  • Detail oriented and able to work under minimal supervision
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods, climb or descend up to ten flights of stairs
  • Ability to walk, bend, lift moderate weights and use cleaning products
  • Ability to work weekends including occasional overtime

Job Duties

  • Communicates museum policies regarding the safety of the collection and ensures staff and visitors adhere to established protocols
  • Conducts opening and closing procedures, including inspection of assigned galleries and surrounding areas
  • Guard and patrol assigned areas of the museum to ensure protection of exhibitions and reports issues to supervisor
  • Completes daily security logs and reports, responds to emergency incidents
  • Performs additional duties including exterior patrols, escorting contractors/vendors
  • Meets and advises the public on exhibition locations and museum arrangements
  • Maintains order in detection, ejection, and security guard tours as assigned
  • Performs various cleaning and mopping duties
  • Operates passenger and freight elevators as needed
  • Wears safety equipment and PPE as necessary
  • Takes responsibility for safety and protection of museum buildings, collections, personnel, visitors, and equipment
  • Assists with fire and safety team functions as instructed by the Fire and Life Safety Director
