Job Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate
- Completion of 2600 helicopter flight hours as a FAA licensed pilot
- Must have 2600 helicopter flight hours exclusively (no combination with fixed wing hours)
- Maintain current FAA Commercial Helicopter or Airplane multi-engine certification
- Must possess and maintain FAA 2nd Class Physical certification
- Possess an acceptable Instrument Helicopter or Airplane Rating
- Maintain FAA Helicopter or Airplane Instructor Pilot certification
- Maintain FAA Helicopter or Airplane Instructor Pilot Instrument certification
- Possess a valid Maryland motor vehicle operator's license if duties require vehicle operation
- Subject to a complete criminal background investigation including polygraph
- Subject to substance abuse testing per regulations
- Subject to 24-hour call-in availability with reachable telephone number
- Must comply with FAA drug testing requirements
Job Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate
- Completion of 2600 helicopter flight hours as a FAA licensed pilot
- FAA Commercial Helicopter or Commercial Airplane multi-engine certification
- FAA 2nd Class Physical certification
- FAA Instrument Helicopter or Airplane Rating
- FAA Helicopter or Airplane Instructor Pilot certification
- FAA Helicopter or Airplane Instructor Pilot Instrument certification
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle with a valid Maryland driver's license
- Experience in piloting helicopters with an emphasis on AW-139 type rating and turbine instruction considered preferred
- Strong knowledge of FAA regulations and Maryland State Police Aviation Command policies
Job Duties
- Manage the Flight Training Device (FTD) and ensure compliance with Simulator Quality Management System and CFR regulations
- administer initial, recurrent, remedial, ground training, applicant evaluations, emergency procedures, and Crew Resource Management programs
- develop FTD training curriculum, study outlines, and operating procedures
- conduct instructional sessions, briefings, follow-ups, and proficiency checks according to FAA and MSPAC standards
- evaluate pilot performance, knowledge, skill, and ability
- ensure pilots are knowledgeable of operational rules and proficient in emergency procedures and CRM
- recommend pilot cessation, qualification, or additional training
- complete detailed training reports
- conduct specialized training with the Department and allied agencies
- maintain training records per FAA and MSPAC rules
- maintain Certified Flight Instructor and FAA Medical Certificates
- participate in initial and recurrent MSPAC standards training
