Job Requirements

  • Must possess a valid driver's license
  • Ability to drive safely in various conditions including congested traffic and rural areas
  • Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to assist patients with diverse medical needs and disabilities
  • Must pass VA physical examination
  • Must comply with VA and DOT drug and alcohol testing policies
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime
  • Must demonstrate reliable and safe driving experience
  • Must maintain mental alertness while driving
  • Must follow safety procedures for patient handling and transport

Job Qualifications

  • Valid driver's license
  • Demonstrated ability to safely operate motor vehicles
  • Knowledge of vehicle operation and safety protocols
  • Ability to follow instructions and interpret specifications related to mobile equipment operation
  • Physical capability to assist and secure patients and heavy equipment
  • Dependability and reliability in job performance
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision

Job Duties

  • Operate various patient transport vehicles including emergency vehicles and vans
  • Drive predetermined or scheduled routes to transport patients
  • Assist patients with medical conditions and disabilities during loading and unloading
  • Secure patients, wheelchairs, and oxygen tanks using appropriate devices
  • Adhere to prescribed safety procedures and body mechanics for lifting and moving heavy objects
  • Perform vehicle safety checks and maintain mental alertness while driving
  • Work varying shifts including evenings, weekends, and holidays when required
