- Possesses extensive knowledge of wine and ability to pair wines with menu items
- Able to present professionally and confidently
- Naturally educates guests without being sales-oriented
- Has a sensitive palate and extraordinary sense of smell
- Quick to respond to complaints and unusual service situations
- Team-oriented and willing to support service captains on the floor
Job Duties
- Be a presence on the floor, increase wine sales and wine service standards
- Work nightly service
- Responsible for section of dining room
- Touch all tables in section
- Run bottles to entire restaurant
- Open bottles in assigned section
- Exhibit a guest first mentality by opening bottles regardless of who sold them
- Assist Wine Director/Head Sommelier with administrative duties
- Manage daily activities for maintenance and promotion of the restaurant's wine collection
- Conduct weekly wine inventory
- Receive wine shipments on Tuesdays and Fridays
- Alternate coming in at 9am on shipment days
- Monitor wine cellar conditions for optimal storage and organization
- Recommend and serve wine to guests based on tastes and preferences
- Work independently and with a team within Maple and Ash procedures
- Advise guests on wine and food pairings, occasions, and budget considerations
- Manage time between nightly floor service and wine list management
- Lead staff training and conduct wine tastings or classes bi-monthly
