Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Certified Dermatology Technician (CDT), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), or equivalent education and experience
  • Minimum two years of experience in an outpatient surgery center, Mohs dermatology practice, or office-based surgery department preferred
  • BLS certification required
  • Willingness and ability to travel to multiple practice locations
  • Ability to assist with injections when competency and supervision are provided
  • Ability to perform OSHA checks and maintain OSHA logs
  • Ability to operate sterilization and aseptic procedures
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to document in electronic medical records
  • Availability for full-time employment

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Certified Dermatology Technician (CDT), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), or equivalent education and experience
  • Minimum two years of experience in an outpatient surgery center, Mohs dermatology practice, or office-based surgery department preferred
  • BLS certification required
  • Knowledge of infectious control, HIPAA, and OSHA preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Excellent computer skills to input and retrieve clinical information
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Organizational skills and ability to multitask
  • Ability to prioritize daily assignments to ensure smooth workflow

Job Duties

  • Opens sterile supplies and sets up for each procedure
  • Performs medical assisting duties including taking vital signs, height and weight, and assisting during excisions and Mohs surgical procedures
  • Assists Mohs surgeon during procedures according to prescribed standards and anticipates the surgeon's needs
  • Performs proper dosing and mixing of medications including buffered lidocaine, Kenalog, sclerotherapy preparations, Botox for cosmetic and hyperhidrosis purposes
  • Sets up procedure room in accordance with prescribed standards
  • Takes appropriate photographs of Mohs stages, labels and organizes them
  • Performs point of care testing and specimen collection, implements quality control standards
  • Sterilizes and packages instruments
  • Communicates courteously with patients, teammates, and the general public by phone and in person
  • Documents patient information and procedural details in electronic medical records
  • Assists with inventory and storage of equipment and supplies
  • Performs medical assistant duties for non-Mohs dermatology patients as needed
  • Performs injections of subcutaneous and intramuscular medications when competency and supervisory agreement are established
  • Assists with OSHA daily and monthly checks and maintains OSHA log
  • Completes suture inventory and monitors for expiring inventory
  • Maintains pathology logbook and ensures proper documentation of pathology reports
  • Provides cross coverage as needed
  • Willingness and ability to travel to provide clinical coverage at other locations

  • Supports APDerm's mission and culture by adhering to relevant policies, standards, laws, and regulations
  • Completes all required training by specified deadlines including Code of Conduct, Privacy and Data Security, and OSHA
  • Assists in procedure room maintenance including case preparation, room turnover, and instrument processing
