Job Requirements
- Postgraduate degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in plant breeding
- Experience managing plant breeding program
- Competency in agronomic field research
- Familiarity with field research equipment
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and plant breeding software
- Ability to travel up to 30 percent during growing season
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work under adverse weather conditions
- Effective communication skills
- Valid driver’s license
- Willingness to supervise temporary laborers and seasonal employees
Job Qualifications

- Extensive experience managing plant breeding programs with successful release of commercial crop varieties
- Competency in agronomic field research
- Familiarity with field research equipment including purchasing, operation, and maintenance
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and plant breeding software
- Understanding of dry bean production systems (desired, not required)
- Commercial Driver's License-Class A (desired, not required)
- Pesticide Applicator License (desired, not required)
- Strong organizational and detail-oriented skills

Job Duties
- Oversee field operations including site selection, land leases, experimental design, communication with cooperators and team members, field preparation, planting, crop management, data collection, harvest, and statistical analysis
- Support seed sales team in design and implementation of regional variety demonstration plots
- Participate in field days, grower meetings, and public engagements to represent the Seedwest brand
- Travel up to 30 percent during growing season to regional field sites
- Collect phenotypic descriptors for plant variety protection and review board applications
- Ensure purity and genetic integrity of new bean varieties
- Develop reports and presentations
- Formulate plant breeding strategy and improve R&D breeding pipeline
- Clean and mill harvest samples
- Manage warehouse space for seed and equipment
- Supervise temporary laborers and seasonal employees
- Oversee research program safety including training, protective equipment, standard procedures, work instructions, permits, and record keeping
- Operate equipment such as forklifts, tractors, and hauling trailers
- Work under adverse environmental conditions, lift up to 50 pounds, and walk long distances during field season
