Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 3+ years experience in bakery specialization preferred
  • 6+ months experience in scratch mixing, shaping, and baking
  • completion of food sanitation and safety training
  • ability to work in a fast-paced retail environment
  • ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • ability to manage items in excess of 70 lbs with assistance
  • strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • ability to stand and walk frequently
  • ability to occasionally bend, stoop, squat, crouch, kneel, and climb stairs
  • willingness to comply with food safety and sanitation standards

Job Qualifications

  • Scratch baking experience
  • communication and interpersonal skills
  • 3+ years of experience in bakery specialization preferred
  • 6+ months experience in scratch mixing, shaping, and baking
  • Bake Works and Fry Works training
  • completion of food sanitation and safety training
  • working knowledge of baking equipment including set-up, cleaning, operating, and maintenance
  • knowledge of H-E-B systems (PC, symbol, scales, label machine)
  • strong customer service skills
  • reading and writing skills

Job Duties

  • Assists customers with bakery products and purchases
  • uses suggestive selling techniques to meet customer needs and to build department sales
  • makes regular announcements to inform customers of freshly-baked products
  • expertly creates a variety of top quality breads from scratch, including artisan pan breads, natural fermented breads, and hearth breads
  • produces a variety of pan dulce pastries
  • executes production efficiently using production planning tools
  • properly tops and finishes all baked goods to create a fresh and appetizing presentation
  • maintains product integrity through proper storing, handling, proofing, and breaking out baked goods
  • ensures quality control of all products before sending to sales floor
  • ensures cake products reach showcase and tables at prescribed times
  • trains future Artisan Bread Experts, Bakers, and Fryers
  • performs Rep and Specialist duties as required
  • organizes back storage room, freezer, cooler, and production area
  • assists with inventory control including loading, unloading, moving, and storing products
  • maintains sanitation in work area
  • complies with food safety and sanitation standards
  • ensures all products comply with H-E-B code dating policy
  • ensures productivity standards are met without compromising quality
  • ensures potentially hazardous foods are maintained at appropriate temperatures
