Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in institutional management, business, or healthcare administration
- Minimum of four years of progressively responsible laundry and linen experience
- At least two years in a supervisory capacity
- Supervisory responsibility for up to 85 full-time employees
- Ability to communicate effectively with non-English speaking personnel
- Proven skills in management, record keeping, and report preparation
- Knowledge of procedures and techniques necessary to develop standards and evaluate products
- Commitment to upholding organizational values and promoting positive customer service
- Ability to work Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm
- Ability to manage budgets, staff performance, and operational resources
- No driving required
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in institutional management, business, or healthcare administration or equivalent experience
- Supervisory and managerial skills to direct service and supervisory personnel
- Strong interpersonal skills for effective interaction with all levels of hospital personnel
- Knowledge of procedures and techniques required to develop standards and evaluate products
- Minimum four years of progressively responsible laundry and linen experience including at least two years in a supervisory role
Job Duties
- Manage the effective utilization of resources including people, financial, and material by developing goals and objectives for laundry and linen services in conjunction with the Director
- Serve as a role model to staff by demonstrating corporate values and maintaining positive customer service relationships
- Communicate effectively with staff, management, and customers to facilitate information flow
- Provide staff with positive feedback and promote career development
- Recommend and assist with capital equipment, labor, and expense budgets
- Establish and maintain work standards for production and distribution of clean textiles
- Assist the Director with new procedures and updates to existing ones
- Provide management through subordinate supervisors to assure proper collection, cleaning, inspection, finishing, and distribution of linens
- Assign production schedules to subordinate supervisors
- Work with site affiliate administration and supervisors on performance evaluations, counseling, and personnel scheduling
- Complete employee performance recognition summaries and submit to the Director
- Conduct meetings to exchange ideas and communicate job-related information
- Interview and select laundry personnel in conjunction with the Director
- Maintain responsibility for training and development of central laundry personnel, especially supervisor skills
- Prepare reports such as linen usage, workload studies, man-hour utilization, and personnel status
- Review time sheets and coordinate vacation scheduling
- Manage maintenance of laundry and linen equipment, textiles, and supplies
- Follow up on contract services for equipment maintenance and other services
- Consult with vendors on testing and evaluation of new products and equipment
- Recommend purchases of replacement items
- Meet regularly with departments such as Nursing, Support Services, and Admitting
- Manage daily operations of Brown University Health Central Laundry and linen delivery
