Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum one year experience in large-scale food production or related field
  • Valid Oregon Driver's License
  • Current Food Handler's Card
  • Current Health Appraisal
  • Ability to pass Child Care Division Criminal History Registry, DMV check, drug screen, and physical capacity examination
  • Ability to perform repetitive motions and manual labor
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Ability to lift items weighing between 10-70 lbs
  • Reliable transportation for deliveries if required

Job Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of large-scale food production typically from one year relevant experience or education
  • Working knowledge of sanitation and safety procedures prescribed for large scale kitchen production
  • Working knowledge of inventory systems
  • Basic literacy skills
  • Ability to problem solve and respond appropriately to unexpected situations while maintaining strict meal schedules
  • Valid Oregon Driver's License
  • Current Food Handler's Card
  • Current Health Appraisal
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including repetitive motions, standing, walking, bending and lifting heavy bulk food items

Job Duties

  • Assemble food, dishes, utensils and supplies needed for timely meal preparation
  • Prepare high-quality nutritional food in quantity as directed by Food Service Manager
  • Follow standardized recipes
  • Prepare and sort food for meal preparation at outlying sites
  • Adhere to sanitation and safety procedures prescribed for the Head Start kitchen
  • Assure food temperatures are hot or cold enough and kitchen areas are sanitary to maintain health standards
  • Wash dishes, pots, pans and utensils using approved sanitation methods
  • Return all items to their proper storage site
  • Complete routine maintenance of kitchen and equipment including weekly deep cleaning
  • Deliver meals from central kitchen to site kitchens as assigned
  • Order and pick up supplies as needed
  • Assist in receiving orders from vendors and insure proper items have been delivered
  • Assist with menu planning
  • Assist with food inventories as assigned
  • Reconcile container inventory weekly
  • Perform weekly thorough visual safety check of food service vehicles and complete checklist
  • Keep interiors of vehicles clean daily and exteriors as needed
  • Report any needed repairs and deliver van to designated repair site as directed
  • Record mileage and gas daily
  • Attend meetings and trainings as needed and required
  • Other duties as requested
