Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- 3-4 years acute care experience
- Ability to type over 60 words per minute
- Ability to manage a multi-line telephone system
- Detail-oriented with strong multi-tasking skills
- Availability to work 12-hour shifts including day, evening, and overnight
- Certification or completion of training as Emergency Medical Technician or related preferred
- Current or prior registration with recognized certifications preferred
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Successful completion of training program as an Emergency Medical Technician or EMT Paramedic preferred
- Associate degree preferred
- 3-4 years acute care experience
- Proficiency in keyboarding with more than 60 words per minute preferred
- Ability to manage multi-line telephone systems with 10 lines
- Detail-oriented with ability to multi-task and manage projects
- NREMT or similar EMT-B certification preferred
- Certification from National Association of Air Medical Communication Center Specialists preferred
- Emergency Medical Dispatcher certification preferred
- Medical Assistant registration preferred
- Certified Nursing Assistant registration preferred
Job Duties
- Serving as the point of contact for referrals and obtaining necessary information to initiate patient transfers
- Receiving transfer requests from physicians and hospitals including demographic, insurance, and clinical data
- Completing extensive data entry in multiple systems including Cerner Transfer Center, FlightVector, Metro Complete, Traumasoft, naviHealth, and Zendesk
- Connecting with accepting MedStar physicians to determine clinical appropriateness for transfers
- Performing follow up with patient financial services, insurance companies, physicians, case managers, social workers, nurses, and other staff to expedite transfer approvals
- Collaborating with admitting and bed management teams to determine bed availability
- Arranging appropriate ambulance or helicopter dispatches based on patient acuity
- Communicating approval and transfer details with referring and accepting hospitals
