Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED or equivalent knowledge and skills
  • One or more years of personal care experience with older adults preferred or as required by state regulations
  • State required medication pass certification
  • Completion of state required delegation and training
  • CPR certification
  • First aid training
  • Food handlers permit
  • Ability to complete medication pass competency and state required trainings
  • Word processing skills

Job Duties

  • Responsible for the daily operation of the medication room and medication services as directed by the Health Services Director
  • Processes physician medication and treatment orders in accordance with state regulations and nurse practice act
  • Administers and assists with self-administration of routine and non-routine medications
  • Completes simple treatments and monitors residents as directed
  • Maintains accurate records of medication and treatment services including controlled substances
  • Coordinates with pharmacies for medication orders and refills
  • Reports all medication errors per policy
  • Reports and records changes in resident condition, incidents and accidents
  • Communicates routinely with physicians, pharmacies, outside services, residents and families
  • Provides direct resident care promoting dignity, independence and choice
  • Assists with or provides care services as directed by the resident's service plan
  • Greets residents, visitors, and staff courteously maintaining confidentiality and dignity
  • Follows fire safety and infection control practices, reports unsafe conditions
  • Serves meals and assists residents at mealtime, manages dining room upkeep
  • Assists in lifting, moving and transporting residents using proper body mechanics or assistive devices
  • Performs first aid and initiates emergency response procedures
  • Properly stores medications and keeps medication room clean and orderly
  • Removes outdated or discontinued medications per policy
  • Attends and participates in training, in-services, and staff meetings
  • Performs other duties as assigned
