Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or ged
  • two years of medical receptionist or front desk experience
  • knowledge of medical terminology and abbreviations
  • proficiency with electronic medical record systems
  • ability to manage multiple phone lines and scheduling software
  • strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • commitment to patient confidentiality and data accuracy

Job Qualifications

  • high school diploma or ged
  • two years of medical receptionist or front desk experience
  • knowledge of medical terminology and physician office operations
  • coding certificate (preferred)
  • associate's degree (preferred)

Job Duties

  • perform work accurately and thoroughly in accordance with departmental standards
  • maintain positive approach and relationships with others
  • greet incoming patients and note arrival time
  • confirm patient demographic information and provide HIPAA privacy notices
  • instruct new patients in completing forms and obtain insurance information
  • file demographic and HIPAA info in medical record
  • collect co-payments and issue receipts
  • collect referrals and enter information
  • ensure medical record is updated on EMR
  • answer telephone lines promptly and transfer calls
  • take and return messages from voicemail
  • transfer calls to answering service during lunch and end of day
  • schedule patient appointments by telephone or in person
  • process patient office visits including co-pay collection and CPT/ICD9 coding
  • confirm next day appointments and remind patients to bring referrals
  • coordinate procedure scheduling as ordered by physician
  • note cancellations and follow up with patients to reschedule
  • reschedule patients due to physician availability
  • pull and scan medical records as needed
  • maintain knowledge of managed care and third-party billing requirements
  • assist patients and staff with questions or problems
  • maintain confidentiality and participate in compliance
  • adhere to patient safety and quality standards
