Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • experience within a medical office or billing department preferred
  • knowledge of patient billing and medical terminology preferred
  • excellent keyboard skills
  • proficiency in a Windows based computer environment and Microsoft Office products
  • accuracy and dependability

Job Duties

  • Greets and communicates with patients via phone or in person in a courteous and professional manner identifying themselves and their department
  • answers telephones in a timely, courteous, and professional manner utilizing appropriate scripting
  • processes calls to ensure patients are transferred to the appropriate staff member/provider in a timely manner
  • schedules patient appointments based on department protocols in order to maximize provider productivity
  • manages patient check-in and check-out procedures
  • verifies patient insurance information accurately
  • collects copayments at the time of service
  • assists with chart preparation and maintains accurate patient records
  • handles referrals and obtains prior authorizations when required
