Job Requirements

  • No formal education required
  • prior medical clinic experience preferred
  • experience using EMR preferred
  • current BLS certification preferred
  • demonstrated proper appearance and personal conduct
  • effective verbal and written communication
  • good grammar and spelling
  • excellent customer service skills
  • ability to multitask and handle interruptions
  • ability to work independently
  • knowledge of medical terminology and insurance coverage
  • ability to schedule patients and follow clinic protocols
  • basic computer proficiency
  • bilingualism in Spanish and English is a plus

Job Qualifications

  • High school graduate or GED preferred
  • prior medical clinic experience preferred
  • experience using electronic medical records (EMR)
  • current BLS certification preferred
  • effective communication skills
  • excellent customer service skills
  • good telephone etiquette and interpersonal communication
  • strong organizational and multitasking abilities
  • ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • knowledge of medical terminology and insurance authorization processes
  • proficiency with basic computer skills including word processing and scheduling software
  • bilingual in Spanish and English preferred

Job Duties

  • Greets and checks patients in and out
  • operates multi-line telephone system and handles calls according to clinic protocols
  • enters patient information into computer systems
  • schedules new and established patient appointments on computerized scheduling system
  • takes accurate messages and routes them appropriately within the clinic
  • triages and documents telephone calls including medication refill requests, complaints, and urgent health concerns
  • collects co-payments and handles insurance information
  • balances cash drawer and completes financial deposits
  • manages appointment cancellations and rescheduling
  • prepares insurance referrals and obtains necessary authorizations
  • sends copies of chart notes to primary care physicians and patient accounting
  • maintains organized work area and manages mail distribution
  • attends staff meetings and insurance workshops
  • completes mandatory education and regulatory licensure requirements
