Job Requirements

  • High school graduate or GED preferred
  • Prior medical clinic experience preferred
  • Experience using an EMR preferred
  • Current BLS certification preferred
  • Effective communication skills
  • Good telephone and interpersonal communication abilities
  • Strong grammar and spelling skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Good organization and multitasking ability
  • Ability to function independently
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, insurance authorization, and scheduling
  • Basic computer skills
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred

  • Ability to function independently with minimal supervision
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance authorization processes
  • Understanding of insurance coverage pertaining to co-payments and referrals
  • Ability to schedule new and established patients and follow walk-in protocols
  • Basic computer skills including word processing, windows applications, and scheduling software
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred

Job Duties

  • Checks in patients including gathering patient information, entering into computer, collecting co-payments, creating new charts and handling insurance information appropriately
  • Checks out patients addressing additional patient concerns or needs
  • Schedules patients correctly through EMR and within provider guidelines
  • Operates multi-line telephone system and triages calls to determine urgency, transfers or leaves messages for staff, and follows up on telephone inquiries
  • Documents and triages telephone calls regarding medication refills, complaints, inquiries, and urgent health concerns
  • Monitors missed appointments and handles per protocol
  • Obtains prior medical records and studies if appropriate
  • Routes faxes, prescription refills, test result requests, and insurance inquiries appropriately
  • Updates financial records for customers and enters patient billing and insurance information
  • Collects, sorts, and distributes mail daily
  • Responds to correspondence via telephone or written communication
  • Maintains organized work area and closes clinic by balancing cash drawer and completing deposits
  • Completes insurance referrals by preparing paperwork, obtaining authorization, and handling denials
  • Sends chart notes copies to primary care physicians and patient accounting as needed
  • Attends monthly staff meetings
  • Communicates supply needs timely
  • Attends insurance workshops and reads updates
  • Completes all mandatory education and licensure requirements to meet regulatory standards
