Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • medical assistant certification required
  • minimum typing speed of 40 WPM
  • ability to use Microsoft Word
  • ability to use a calculator
  • ability to adapt to specific environment and duties
  • ability to communicate courteously with patients and public
  • must be able to hear and speak clearly on the telephone
  • must be able to lift up to 40 pounds and push up to 100 pounds on wheels
  • must have adequate vision to read documents and computer screens
  • high manual dexterity
  • able to bend, squat, sit, stand, stoop, crouch, reach, kneel, twist and turn
  • willingness to work in an environment where exposure to contagious or infectious diseases may occur

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • medical assistant certification required

  • ability to use a calculator
  • bilingual skills (English/Spanish, English/Punjabi, English/Hmong) preferred
  • familiarity with Electronic Health Record systems

  • neat and legible handwriting

Job Duties

  • Assists patients calling or visiting the clinic
  • greets patients and visitors at the clinic
  • provides assistance to patients and others contacting the clinic by telephone
  • completes initial registration information of new patients following established policies and procedures
  • updates patient information in computer database and scans paperwork into EHR
  • provides patient portal invites and updates
  • schedules appointments for patients calling or walking in
  • calls patients to confirm next day's appointments
  • identifies no-shows and cancellations and reschedules patients
  • maintains daily EHR worklist
  • verifies medical coverage, co-pays, and authorization for services
  • determines program eligibility and completes application procedures
  • prints program eligibility forms and scans into EHR
  • calculates patients' share of cost and collects payments
  • verifies insurance coverage including Medicare/Medi-Cal and Managed Care
  • obtains proof of income per Sliding Fee Policy
  • documents notes regarding collections and payment arrangements
  • advises patients of account balances and assists with payment arrangements through PAS
  • processes payments including cash, check, and credit card
  • prints receipts and posts payments in the computer
  • compiles daily statistics
  • reconciles daily cash collections, check receipts, and credit card payments
  • prepares bank deposit slips
  • balances daily transactions in database
  • provides administrative support to the department including printing schedules and managing inventory
  • performs other duties as assigned by supervisor
