Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED or valid work permit for ages 15-17
  • 1-2 years experience in medical or physician office or customer service preferred
  • Understanding of insurance verification
  • Excellent communication skills, including written, verbal and phone etiquette
  • Knowledge of patient care procedures and organizational policies related to the role
  • Service-oriented and responsive to customer needs
  • Proficient in Windows-based computer systems and software including EMR, Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team and with diverse populations
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to travel to different office locations
  • Successful completion of competency-based program within training period

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED or between ages 15-17 with valid work permit
  • 1-2 years of experience in medical or physician office or customer service preferred
  • Course work in insurance, billing, medical practice education or seminars preferred but not required
  • Knowledge of verification of insurances
  • Excellent written, verbal and face-to-face communication skills including proper phone etiquette
  • Proficient in patient care procedures and organizational policies
  • Service-oriented, responsive to customer needs
  • Proficient in operating standard desktop and Windows-based computer systems including electronic medical records, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, intranet and computer navigation
  • Ability to compute mathematical calculations
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations including staff, patients, family members, vendors and outside customers
  • Good organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to handle confidential patient and organizational information
  • Ability to drive to other office/practice sites and meeting locations

Job Duties

  • Greets all individuals arriving at the office courteously and ensures their needs are met
  • Obtains necessary patient registration information, verifies patient insurance eligibility, prepares charts for visits, and notifies clinical staff of patient arrival
  • Accurately completes patient forms, collects payment and ensures charges are posted to billing system
  • Retrieves and files EMR and paper charts and miscellaneous reports
  • Answers telephone in accordance with office telephone etiquette, taking and relaying messages in a timely manner
  • Schedules and confirms appointments based on office protocols
  • Assists with reschedules of clinics and contacts patients
  • Communicates with leadership when overbooks are not approved
  • Sends out necessary new patient paperwork
  • Works the daily Work Queue
  • May oversee daily payment and charge posting balancing
  • May support overdue report management and patient outreach
  • Monitors, organizes and keeps work area and waiting room neat
  • Supports other offices, attends meetings and training as assigned
  • Performs other duties as assigned
