Job Requirements
- meet time-in-grade requirements if currently or previously employed in federal service
- provide proof of qualifications with transcripts if education is the basis for eligibility
- ability to perform physical requirements including heavy lifting (45 pounds and over), walking, standing, kneeling, climbing, and operation of motor vehicles
- ability to work in varying environmental conditions such as excessive heat, cold, humidity, noise, and exposure to infected or contaminated materials
- ability to work mandatory overtime and different shifts including day, night, and swing shifts
- possess near vision correctable to Jaeger 1 to 4 and far vision correctable to 20/20 in one eye and 20/40 in the other
- capable of rapid mental and muscular coordination
- must be able to work effectively under stress
Job Qualifications
- one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-08 grade level or higher
- knowledge of majority of human body systems including skeletal, muscular, nervous, respiratory, circulatory, digestive, and genitourinary
- experience with basic life support procedures
- experience in patient transport and emergency vehicle operation
- proficiency in communication techniques within emergency response contexts
- ability to apply emergency care protocols for hazardous material incidents
- graduate education of two full years or a master's degree may be substituted for experience
- combination of graduate education and specialized experience may be considered
Job Duties
- perform basic and advanced life support procedures
- respond to accidents and medical emergencies that may be life-threatening
- provide transportation of patients to medical treatment facilities
- use communication equipment to relay accurate information to dispatchers and health care providers
- operate emergency or patient transport vehicles
- apply protocols and treatments for emergency care involving chemical, nuclear, biological, and hazardous materials incidents
- collaborate effectively with emergency medical teams and healthcare personnel
