Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • six months experience in a medical assistant role or completion of an approved Medical Assistant training program
  • basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • ability to exert physical force up to 50 pounds occasionally
  • residency and work eligibility in the State of Texas
  • adherence to security-sensitive position guidelines as per Texas Education Code and Government Code
  • ability to maintain security and confidentiality per institutional policies
  • strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • willingness to perform various clinical and administrative tasks
  • commitment to patient-centered care and teamwork
  • completion of all mandatory trainings and certifications

Job Qualifications

  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • completion of an approved Medical Assistant training program preferred
  • six months experience or completion of an approved Medical Assistant training program
  • basic Life Support (BLS) certification by American Heart Association required
  • familiarity with standard clinic equipment
  • strong communication and organizational skills
  • ability to maintain confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA
  • ability to work effectively in a team-oriented clinical environment

Job Duties

  • perform responsibilities that promote quality patient care and customer service satisfaction
  • participate effectively in planning and preparing for patient visits ensuring appropriate schedules, test results, and clinic requirements
  • room patients according to clinic needs while documenting chief complaint, vital signs, medication list, allergies, smoking history, and other required information
  • perform hearing and vision testing, EKG, spirometry, point of care testing, specimen collection, and equipment cleaning as competency validated
  • prepare and stock rooms and clinic supplies daily or weekly and clean rooms between patients
  • assist with routine and specialty procedures
  • schedule patients for follow-up appointments or referrals and perform routine clerical duties including photocopying, scanning, and faxing
  • perform telephone messaging and in-person screening with appropriate follow-up
  • maintain privacy and confidentiality according to HIPAA guidelines
  • perform other duties as assigned
