Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Completion of medical assistant training from an accredited program
  • Ability to perform point-of-care testing, draw and collect blood specimens, and prepare samples for laboratory processing
  • Preferred minimum of one year of phlebotomy and/or medical assistant experience
  • Preferred BLS (CPR) certification
  • Preferred two years of experience in an ambulatory care setting
  • Ability to legally work in the United States
  • Subject to pre-employment screening including criminal background check, drug testing, and education verification
  • Capable of frequent physical activity including standing, walking, and talking
  • Capable of occasional physical activity such as crouching, kneeling, pulling, pushing, and reaching
  • Adherence to safety and infection control protocols

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma/GED
  • Completion of medical assistant training from an accredited program

  • BLS (CPR) certification preferred
  • Two years of experience in an ambulatory care setting preferred

Job Duties

  • Provides direct patient care by acquiring medical history, vital signs, and lab samples
  • Communicates with nursing staff regarding changes in patients' conditions and maintains an adequate supply of supplies required for patient care
  • Greets patients upon arrival at the clinic
  • Schedules, registers, and checks out patients
  • Collects payments, issues receipts, and verifies insurance coverage
  • Transports patients to other areas of the hospital, as needed
  • Provides appropriate grooming/oral hygiene and comfort measures and assists patients with physical activities
  • Documents all patient care activities
  • Adheres to the UAMS safety plan
  • Complies with safety instructions and observes safe work practices
  • Provides input on safety issues
  • Serves as a resource to support department members in the performance of their duties
  • Notifies appropriate staff members of problems requiring prompt intervention
  • Participates in continuing education and professional/institutional advancement opportunities
  • May perform other duties as assigned
