Job Requirements

  • High school education preferred but not required
  • successful completion of an apprenticeship or training program or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • ability to perform arithmetical calculations at the tenth-grade level
  • ability to hear, speak and understand spoken word
  • ability to read, write and understand English
  • ability to compose reports and correspondence
  • ability to solve practical problems
  • be knowledgeable of meat cuts and products
  • pass a standard drug test
  • perform duties efficiently meeting productivity, accuracy, cleanliness and safety standards
  • able to lift up to 55 pounds
  • able to work in refrigerated and frozen environments
  • able to tolerate moderate dust and chemical fumes
  • able to work in an environment with fruits, vegetables and flowers without allergic reaction
  • able to climb ladders, sweep, mop and carry trash
  • able to respond quickly to emergencies

Job Qualifications

  • High school education preferred but not required

  • be fully knowledgeable and familiar with various cuts and types of meat products including meat deli products
  • understand store and department procedures, policies and operations
  • ability to perform arithmetical calculations at the tenth-grade level
  • ability to read, write, analyze and understand English language
  • ability to compose and write reports and business correspondence
  • ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions provided in various formats
  • ability to communicate effectively with customers and co-workers

Job Duties

  • Wrap, package and price-mark meat and related products as prescribed by department standards
  • price-mark and stock meat deli area as assigned
  • ensure that the work shift contributes to the financial best interests of the store
  • observe all store rules and company policies
  • maintain a neat, well-groomed personal appearance and observe company dress regulations
  • adhere to all local, state and federal health and civil code regulations
  • adhere to weights and measures laws
  • follow approved procedures for weighing, wrapping, price marking and restocking cases
  • take finished products to refrigerated storage or shelf areas
  • maintain a department price book
  • order wrapping supplies for the department
  • stock display cases
  • communicate temperature irregularities to department manager
  • conduct competitive price checks
  • provide customer assistance
  • handle damaged and spoiled products according to company policy
  • comply with safety policies and procedures
  • contribute to the control of department expenses and energy conservation practices
  • order and maintain inventory control of supplies
  • control excessive use of utilities and water
  • perform bookkeeping tasks including recording shift hours and verifying time
  • maintain the department price book
  • calculate product gross margins and retail prices
  • verify accuracy of invoices
  • record markups, markdowns and spoilage
  • adhere to meat department restocking procedures
  • keep cases properly stocked and faced
  • ensure attractive presentation of meat cuts
  • rotate perishable merchandise
  • order deli merchandise and maintain inventory control
  • contribute to a favorable department image
  • maintain housekeeping and sanitation standards
  • check refrigeration equipment
  • use and maintain equipment
  • report maintenance issues
  • observe security standards
  • take action to control shrinkage and pilferage
  • coordinate activities with associates for productivity
  • maintain good communication with superiors and co-workers
  • notify manager of personnel situations affecting store performance
