Job Requirements

  • Applicant must have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • must be able to lift moderate to heavy weights up to 50 pounds regularly
  • experience with handling and moving materials preferred
  • availability for scheduled shifts Thursday 2 pm to 7 pm, Friday 1 pm to 6 pm, and Saturday 10 am to 6 pm
  • ability to perform physical tasks including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stretching, climbing occasionally, and pushing/pulling loaded carts
  • good communication skills and ability to interact with patrons and coworkers
  • willingness to participate in training and process improvement
  • may require valid driver’s license and proof of insurability if travel is needed

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or current enrollment in high school or equivalent educational experience preferred
  • experience with picking and moving materials is preferred
  • previous library experience helpful
  • ability to read and comprehend work-related documents and library material labels
  • good organizational and time management skills
  • effective listening and communication abilities
  • works well individually and as part of a team
  • knowledge of public library and business computer applications
  • adapts to new software and equipment technologies
  • contributes to system-wide communications and provides feedback

Job Duties

  • Shelves library materials following established guidelines
  • processes returned materials by placing items into sorting machine
  • pulls materials to fulfill patron holds
  • picks up unshelved materials
  • reads and straightens shelves to maintain order
  • shelves items at floor level and above six feet
  • safely maneuvers carts throughout the building
  • maintains safe, clean, and organized work areas
  • reports areas of concern to the manager
  • provides directional assistance to library patrons
  • assists with special projects as assigned
  • mentors and trains co-workers under manager's guidance
  • participates in process improvement and evaluation initiatives
