Job Requirements
- Ability to perform materials handler work without more than normal supervision
- Experience with forklifts capable of lifting up to 50,000 pounds
- Skill in safely operating motor vehicles including backing and maneuvering in varied traffic conditions
- Knowledge of accepted warehousing and material handling procedures
- Familiarity with safety policies and procedures related to transportation and hazardous materials
- Capability to use automated processing systems including scanners and computer terminals
- Physical fitness to lift up to 40 pounds and operate heavy machinery in strenuous conditions
Job Qualifications
- Experience and skill in operating heavy capacity forklifts and motor vehicles
- Knowledge of warehousing methods, procedures, and material handling techniques
- Understanding of transportation policies, safety rules, and regulations
- Ability to operate automated material processing and tracking equipment
- Ability to follow specialized preservation and handling procedures for hazardous cargo
- Physical ability to perform tasks involving lifting, bending, stooping, and operating machinery
- Demonstrated ability to perform duties independently with minimal supervision
Job Duties
- Perform a wide range of material handling duties including receipt, storage, issuance, shipment, pickup, and delivery of cargo
- Safely operate electric, gasoline, diesel, or LPG powered forklifts with capacities up to 50,000 pounds
- Maneuver bulky materials in constrained spaces and rough terrain
- Accurately assess size and weight of loads and determine appropriate storage locations
- Operate motor vehicles safely under various traffic and road conditions
- Use automated material processing equipment such as computer terminals and scanners
- Adhere to safety, transportation, and protective service policies especially when handling hazardous or specialty cargo
